Leather Bonding Techniques In Handmade Leather Making
One: Bending and fitting
First, apply white glue evenly on the bonding surface of the two PU Leather parts, and then bend the front part slightly toward the folding line while pasting the inner leather. By slightly bending the leather part like this, you can try to avoid dents in the leather. Keeping this bending angle, press the two pieces of leather that are bonded together with a glass plate. After the white glue is dry, you can try to bend the leather to confirm whether there is a problem with the bending method. The leather parts that have been bent and bonded will appear relatively bent. Note that the bending angle should not be too large. The operation mode using other adhesives is basically the same.
Two: Bonding method of the step difference part
First place the next leather part to be installed on the installed leather part, and align and mark them at the same time. Another thing to note is that when several pieces of leather overlap, sometimes the leather surface and the meat surface are on the same side. Therefore, when the bonding part is the surface layer, it needs to be polished to make a bonding surface. Apply white glue to the bonding surface of the two leather parts, and then align with the mark marked before to connect the parts. Because a step difference will be formed after pasting several pieces of leather, press it with a glass plate or a hammer. Although the cross-sectional difference cannot be completely eliminated, it must be pressed as much as possible to make it fit tightly. After completion, we need to flatten the side of the leather parts after installation, and use tools such as grinding discs and planers.
If the cross-sectional difference of the back of the glue is large, we can use a planer to flatten it, and the efficiency can be improved. When using, pay attention to the length of the push knife to avoid over-planing. In the case of small table difference, it is more suitable to use a triangular grinder, because the main body of the triangular grinder is relatively hard and easy to hold, so a beautiful plane can be ground. The general technique for the side after grinding is to grind it twice, cut it once before, and grind it again after sewing.
Three: Methods for pasting large areas of leather
Since it takes a long time to glue a large area, it is necessary to spray the leather wet to extend the drying time. Use a sprayer to spray water on the meat surface to be coated with white glue, and spray it slightly wet. Since the surface of the meat will absorb water, just use a sprayer to lightly spray water on the surface. Apply white glue to the hydrated leather. White glue becomes thinner after absorbing water, which can delay the drying time. Use a thin film to evenly apply white glue on the bonding surface, being careful not to apply it too thickly. Apply white glue to the other piece of leather. Because it will stick immediately after applying, there is no need to spray it wet. Make sure the white glue on both sides is wet, and then stick it together.
