Disadvantages Of Pu Leather
Disadvantages of PU leather: PU is a newly developed high-grade leather among synthetic leathers. It has become an ideal material to replace natural leather because of its advantages such as wear resistance, cold resistance, breathability, aging resistance, soft texture and beautiful appearance.
Natural leather is "woven" from many collagen fibers of varying thicknesses, divided into two layers: grain layer and mesh layer. The grain layer is woven from extremely fine collagen fibers, and the mesh layer is woven from coarser collagen fibers. The surface layer of PU leather is composed of a polyurethane layer with a structure similar to that of the mesh layer of natural leather, and the base layer is made of ultra-fine fiber non-woven fabric, whose structure is extremely similar to that of the mesh layer of natural leather. Therefore, PU leather has a very similar structure and performance to natural leather. Compared with natural leather, PU leather has the following main characteristics: First, the folding fastness is comparable to that of natural leather. It can be bent 200,000 times at room temperature without cracks, and bent 30,000 times at low temperature (-20℃) without cracks. Second, the elongation is moderate. Third, the tear strength and peel strength are high.
Ultrafine fibers are made by sea-island fiber spinning. The so-called sea-island fiber is a structure with two components as sea and island respectively. On the cross section, one component is sea, and the other component is island dispersed in the sea. After drawing, the sea component is dissolved to obtain a continuous ultrafine island component fiber bundle. The fiber fineness can reach 0.0011dtex, usually 0.06~0.1dtex, which is more like the collagen fiber of natural leather. The sea-island fiber non-woven fabric is made by cutting, combing, laying and needle punching production process. Because the fiber fineness of ultrafine fibers is higher, the quality of the product is greatly improved. Therefore, the appearance of ultrafine leather is most like leather; its product is better than natural leather in thickness uniformity, tear strength, color brightness and leather surface utilization, and has become the development direction of contemporary synthetic leather.
